WATERLOO (SEPT. 20, 2017) Rogers and the Region of Waterloo are bringing low-cost, high-speed internet to 12,000 low-income housing tenants in Waterloo Region with Rogers’ Connected for Success program. For $9.99 monthly, tenants of Region of Waterloo’s rent-geared-to-income housing can get online with Connected for Success.

The Region of Waterloo is the 190th housing provider to partner with Rogers on Connected for Success since the program’s inception in 2013. To date, more than 15,000 households across Rogers cable footprint in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland have signed up for the program.

“It is our goal at Rogers to connect communities and make it easier for all Canadians to fully participate in the digital economy,” said Peter King, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Rogers. “Rogers is committed to supporting Waterloo Region’s vibrant, growing community by providing a low-cost solution that connects residents to the vital services and tools that are crucial to success in today’s digital world.”

A 2015 Ipsos-Reid study found that while 91% of Canadians currently have access to the internet at home, the number drops to 70% in households with an annual income under $25,000.

“We are living in a digital world and accessible and affordable access to the internet is essential. We are very pleased to partner with the Connected for Success program,” said Doug Craig, Mayor of Cambridge. “All residents should be equipped with the tools they need to easily access online information and opportunities.”

“We are pleased to partner with Rogers to give more people in our community an easier and more affordable way to connect with family and friends, search and apply for work, and access other resources,” said Regional Chair Ken Seiling. “Internet access is such an important service and this collaboration will help many people in our community improve their quality of life.”

Connected for Success requires no contract or credit checks upon sign up, and includes speeds of up to 10 Mbps download and up to 1 Mbps upload.

Rogers also offers Internet 5, a low-cost service for $32.99 a month, available to anyone within Rogers’ internet service area; modem rental of $8/month is extra.
