Fido celebrates World Environment Day by announcing new partnership with Evergreen

The new partnership will enable funding and support for habitat
restoration and stewardship projects across CanadaMONTREAL, June 5 /CNW/ - Fido, the wireless savings company that cares,
and Evergreen, a national not-for-profit organization that makes cities more
livable, announced today a new partnership to support innovative community
greening projects. The partnership will support the Evergreen Common Grounds
program, which engages community volunteers to restore and improve the health
of local environments and habitats in urban and urbanizing communities across
Canada.
Since earlier this year, customers who have been activating and migrating
onto new Fido plans have been encouraged to take the e-billing option. It not
only saves trees, it saves customers money. For every paper invoice printed,
there is a $2 charge. Proceeds from the billing program are being donated to
Evergreen. Fido's contribution will support greening projects and the planting
of 25,000 trees across Canada.
The projects include restoring degraded environments, protecting spaces
for open-air recreation, education and enjoyment, and improving the health and
biodiversity of natural habitats. Supported by Fido, the projects will help to
strengthen community ties by fostering a sense of cooperation and instilling
feelings of pride and ownership in residents for local, outdoor spaces.
"As the wireless savings company that cares, not only about our customers
but about the environment as well, we are proud to partner with Evergreen to
provide funding for planting trees, habitat restoration and fundamentally
improving green spaces throughout Canada," says Sylvain Roy, Senior Vice
President and General Manager, Fido. "This partnership, along with Fido's
availability of the eco-friendly Motorola Renew, demonstrates our ongoing
commitment to environmental stewardship."
"Evergreen provides the framework for community engagement and
restoration of natural spaces across the country. We are encouraged to see
committed volunteers taking action and bringing nature back to their
neighbourhoods," says Geoff Cape, Executive Director, Evergreen. "We are
excited to have Fido as a partner in our mission to make cities more livable."
Across the country, naturalization projects will be taking root with
Fido's support. For a complete list of Evergreen's planned stewardship and
restoration projects, please visit www.evergreen.ca.
