Hear from the Class of 2017: Getting to know Victoria

My name is Victoria; I am an enthusiastic powerlifter, rugby player, and choral singer who enjoys baking, spending time with family, and playing computer games in my spare time.

Where do you volunteer? What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
I volunteer at my school, Boys and Girls Club of Summerside, and other small non-profit community organizations. My favorite part of volunteering is being able to witness the immediate and long-term impact that my efforts and work has had on those I help. I have made many friends through volunteering and I love giving back to my community!

Why was receiving a Ted Rogers Scholarship special?
Receiving a Ted Rogers Scholarship was special to me because nursing school is very competitive to enter, and it is rather expensive to attend. This scholarship is an enormous encouragement to me and I will fully utilize it to further my education, start my future career as a nurse, and provide professional medical care to anyone in need.

Where do you plan on going to school and what will you study?
I will be attending the University of Calgary in the fall, and will begin a 4-year program studying nursing.

What are your long-term goals?
My long-term goals are to obtain a master’s degree in nursing and work in a hospital in Alberta.
Although before then, and perhaps while I study in university, I would like to volunteer in a soup kitchen, helping prepare and package meals for people in need. My biggest goal of all though is to improve the lives of as many people as possible—I have a burning desire to be of assistance wherever I can and I find great joy recognizing and being able to witness how my work benefits others in so many ways!
