Rogers Announces Significant Prize for Canadian Film

Builds on long history of support for the creative community

TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2012 /CNW/ – Rogers Communications announced today a
significant prize for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award. The cash
prize for the best Canadian film in 2012 has been increased to $100,000
and will be awarded to the director of the winning film as voted on by
members of the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA).

Rogers became the founding sponsor of the TFCA Awards Gala five years
ago.  “We are pleased to support content creators in this country
through this prize,” said Phil Lind, Vice Chairman, Rogers
Communications.  “Canadian film is competing on the world stage and
with this extraordinary prize we hope to inspire this community to
reach even higher.”

“We are enormously grateful to Rogers for taking this bold and
unprecedented initiative,” said TFCA President, Brian D. Johnson. “It
gives Canadian filmmakers the pride of place they deserve at the
country’s top tier of arts awards.”

Rogers has been involved with the Canadian film and television
production sector for more than 30 years.  The Rogers Group of Funds
offers support to Canadian independent producers with three different
types of funding – loans to Canadian independent producers, funding for
documentary films and equity for Canadian programs airing on a Canadian
cable channel.   Rogers has committed more than $430M over this period
for the production of Canadian television and feature film projects.

The Rogers Best Canadian Film Award will be presented in Toronto on
January 8th, 2013 at the 16th Annual TFCA Gala Awards Dinner.
