Basketball fans receive early holiday gift with sold-out Rogers Slam Dunk Day

HALIFAX, Nov. 30 /CNW/ – Halifax residents scored big today when Rogers Communications went on the offensive and presented the City of Halifax with 10,000 complimentary tickets to Rogers Slam Dunk Day. On December 19, 2009, basketball fans will be courtside to witness all the excitement, sweat, drama and suspense as the Halifax Rainmen take on the Manchester Millrats in the first pre-season game at Halifax Metro Centre.

“Rogers is absolutely thrilled to be giving basketball fans the opportunity to experience a live sold-out Halifax Rainmen game,” said Susan Gordon, Vice President of Marketing Services, Rogers Communications. “Rogers Slam Dunk Day is our way of thanking the community and our loyal customers this holiday season and it is also our way of supporting the outstanding contributions the Rainmen players make both on and off the court.”

As part of the Halifax Rainmen Media Day, Susan Gordon and Andre Levingston, President and CEO of Halifax Rainmen, presented an oversized ticket to Rogers Slam Dunk Day to Councillor Dawn Sloane, who accepted the gift on behalf of Halifax residents. More than 5,000 minor league basketball players have already received tickets to Rogers Slam Dunk Day and fans will be able to receive complimentary tickets through a series of contests and promotions at local Rogers’ retailers.

“A live Halifax Rainmen game is such an exciting and memorable experience – it is so much more than just a game,” said Levingston. “We are thankful for the support that Rogers continues to provide our team and we are eager to start shooting hoops, entertaining our fans and ultimately winning this season!”

Rogers is proud to support a team that demonstrates such a strong commitment to the Halifax community. The Halifax Rainmen are dedicated to providing positive experiences for youth by teaching at basketball day camps, offering motivational sessions and lending a hand for charitable drives.
