Sportsnet Release: Historic Blue Jays Win Delivers Historic Sportsnet Audiences: More Than 1 in 4 Canadians Watched Some Part of ALDS Game 5

TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2015 /CNW/ –  It was wild. It was crazy. And it’s become an instant classic. Game 5 of the American League Division Series between the Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers was one for the record books, both on and off the field, as Sportsnet delivered its largest audience in network history, with an average audience of 4.85 million viewers tuning into the broadcast. Sportsnet’s previous all-time most-watched program occurred just 48 hours earlier with 4.38 million viewers tuning into Texas/Blue Jays ALDS Game 4 on Monday, Oct. 12.

Overall, 11.5 million Canadians watched some part of the game on Sportsnet, as the Blue Jays thrillingly defeated the Rangers, 6-3. Audience levels peaked at 8.1 million viewers at 7:44 p.m. ET in the top of the 9th inning, as pitcher Roberto Osuna struck out Will Venable.

More audience highlights include:

  • The Texas/Toronto ALDS delivered an average audience of 3.55 million. This marks a 1,087% increase over the 2014 ALDS between Detroit and Baltimore
  • More than 16 million Canadians watched some part of the 2015 Toronto/Texas ALDS (46% of the Canadian population)
  • An average audience of 3.51 million viewers tuned into last night’s one-hour post-game show
  • Last night’s Houston/Kansas City ALDS Game 5 delivered an average audience of 1.16 million
  • ALDS Games 3, 4 and 5 were the first three broadcasts in Sportsnet history to surpass 4 million viewers
  • Sportsnet’s top 6 most-watched broadcasts are as follows:
  1. ALDS Game 5, Texas @ Toronto (Oct. 14, 2015): 4.85 million
  2. ALDS Game 4, Toronto @ Texas (Oct. 12, 2015): 4.38 million
  3. ALDS Game 3, Toronto @ Texas (Oct. 11, 2015): 4.2 million

  • Yesterday was the highest trafficked day for, with a 63% increase in page views over ALDS Game 4; a 46% increase in unique visitors over ALDS Game 4; and a 87% increase in video starts over ALDS Game 4

Rogers Centre – Mobile Usage Stats

  • During the three ALDS home games at Rogers Centre, an average of 20,000 fans at the game were connected to the Rogers wireless network, uploading photos and video, and sending emails and texts – almost double the number of people who connected to the network during the last regular season home game on Sept. 27
  • 229% more content was shared over Rogers Centre Wi-Fi network during last night’s ALDS Game 5 at Rogers Centre compared to the average during the regular season
