TORONTO (April 14, 2019) After six days of elite curling action with 24 of the world’s best teams, Team Bottcher (Edmonton) and Team Einarson (Gimli, MB) have claimed top honours at the Players’ Championship – the sixth event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series.

On the men’s side of the draw, Team Bottcher captured its second consecutive Grand Slam crown following a 6-1 victory over Battle of Alberta rival Team Koe (Calgary) in the men’s final on Sunday. With this win, Team Bottcher takes home $30,000 of the $150,000 men’s purse for the victory, in addition to $40,000 in prize money for finishing second in the Pinty’s Cup standings.

“It’s amazing”, said skip Brendan Bottcher. “This really caps off the Grand Slam event series every year. We’re fortunate to come back here a few times in a row. I’m just really proud of the boys, we’ve had such a good year and to cap it off like this is just phenomenal.“

In women’s action, Team Einarson captured its first Grand Slam title this year following a 5-4 victory in an extra end over two-time Grand Slam winners and reigning Olympic gold medalist Team Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, Sweden). In addition to the Players’ Championship title, Team Einarson collects $30,000 of the $150,000 women’s purse, plus $25,000 in prize money for finishing third in the Pinty’s Cup standings.

“It feels so awesome”, said skip Kerri Einarson. “I’ve always wanted to win the Players’ or any kind of Grand Slam. I’m really so excited.”
