We’re Giving Back to Move #ForwardTogether

Today is “Giving Tuesday”, a global day of action to tap into the power of human connection and support our communities.  While Giving Tuesday is not new, in 2020 the unprecedented need to rally together and support each other has never been more important.  At Rogers, connecting Canadians to what matters – especially now — is at the very heart of what we do.

In our lifetimes, we have never seen anything like COVID-19.  This pandemic revealed urgent needs among Canada’s at-risk communities, and so we leaned in. Here are some of the ways we have supported some of those who need it most:

  • Because no one should worry where their next meal is coming from, we partnered with Food Banks Canada on a national awareness and fundraising campaign and delivered more than 1 million meals.
  • Because no one should be afraid in their own home, we partnered with Women’s Shelters Canada on an awareness campaign to let women know that help is just one click away.
  • Because no “little” should be without their “big” for mentoring and support during these extraordinary times, we partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide devices and plans to help keep those relationships strong.
  • Because no one should be isolated from critical support services, we partnered with PFLAG to support their work with LGBTQ2+ communities to ensure that every chapter has the devices and connectivity they need to continue their vital support for Canadians across the country.

And we haven’t stopped there – each day were working with governments, hospitals and organizations from coast-to-coast-to-coast to keep Canada connected and to support those who need us most.  With devices and plans, we are helping Ontario students continue to learn through our partnership with the Ministry of Education.

This desire to give back is present in every corner of our organization. With more than 25,000 team members across Canada, our employees – deeply rooted in the communities in which we live and work – are finding unique ways of giving back, too.  From Beth in Toronto who has  joined “The Sewing Army” in to make cloth face masks and washable tote bags for frontline care workers to use to carry their scrubs to and from work,  to Karen in Sudbury who has organized a socially-distanced food drive on her street, these actions large and small are helping those in need, and inspiring us all.

Our efforts during COVID-19 build off a strong tradition of giving-back. At Rogers, we have a legacy of caring, and we come together as one for our annual two-day Give Together Days – our people volunteer 20,000 hours every year at more than 80 events across the country. Throughout each year, we celebrate the charitable organizations that matter most to our people, granting our teams an annual paid day off to volunteer, and matching all employee donations to the organizations that are meaningful to them.

As a national company, we have a responsibility to “open our pantry” and use what we can to help all Canadians.  But Giving Tuesday isn’t just about mobilizing large organizations; you might be sewing masks at your kitchen table and your kids are writing chalk messages of love and support for local hospital workers.  Giving Tuesday is for all of us.

However you help today on Giving Tuesday, thank you.  It’s not too late to join us in supporting Food Banks Canada, Women’s Shelters Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters, PFLAG, or another organization that’s meaningful to you.  This is how we all move #ForwardTogether.
