Wondering about 5G? We can help!

Fifth generation wireless technology – or 5G – will be the most transformative technology offered since wireless services were introduced in 1985.

1G: In the 1980s, the first generation of wireless networks were introduced, making wireless telephony possible and transforming how Canadians think about communication.

2G:   The second generation of wireless networks launched in the early 1990s, making SMS text messages, email and global roaming possible, and allowing Canadians to switch from pagers to mobile phones and stay connected in more places.

3G:  The third generation of wireless networks made it easier to access to the internet and  social media on the go, allowing more people to stay connected in more places.

4G: The fourth and current generation of wireless technology has made the on-demand economy possible, allowing Canadians to watch, post and send videos, listen to live streamed music, use ride-sharing, and access thousands of other applications, all through their smartphones.

5G: Rogers 5G is currently accessible to customers in some Canadian cities on Rogers Infinite plans and unlimited business wireless plans with select 5G devices. 5G access is available at no extra cost until March 2021.  Over time, 5G will introduce new capabilities that are significantly more advanced than previous generations of wireless technology. From network slicing to give first responders a dedicated network, to wireless sensors that monitor farmers’ soil conditions saving them time and money, to using virtual reality that enhances the retail customer experience, to multi-player, lag-free gaming on the go – 5G will deliver a world of possibilities.
