As Chief Technology Information Officer at Rogers, Jorge Fernandes leads a team of more than 4,000 engineers, developers, and technology professionals responsible for designing, building, and operating the company’s industry-leading wireline, wireless and media networks, as well as IT and digital strategy and systems. Jorge’s 25-year career in technology spans the globe, leading teams for major telecommunications firms and multinational technology corporations.
Since joining Rogers in 2018, Jorge and his team have built Canada’s largest and most reliable 5G network, established 5G research partnerships with Canada’s leading academic institutions, expanded the company’s wireline network and led the modernization of IT and digital systems to a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Prior to joining Rogers, Jorge had a 15-year career at Vodafone, previously as Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone UK, where he led a team of 4,000 employees delivering wireless, voice, Internet, and home broadband services to 19 million customers. Prior to that, he was Chief Technology Officer for Vodafone’s operating companies in Portugal and Turkey, where he led end-to-end technology services.
Jorge holds a Licentiate degree in Economics and Business Management from Autonomous University of Lisbon and completed the Católica Lisbon/Kellogg School of Management Advanced Management Program. He started his career as an engineer working for South African companies before joining Cisco, where he worked on network implementation programs for the world’s largest operators.
