Rogers Customers Can Stream Up To 3 Times More Video Using their Data

— New feature gives Share Everything customers even more control of their family data plan, at no extra cost —

TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2017– Rogers Communications today announced a new feature, part of its worry-free data management solution, that gives families the ability to get more out of their data plan by streaming up to three times more video on the most popular mobile applications and websites including YouTube, Twitch, and Rogers NHL Live.

With the new feature, the data manager (mom or dad, for example) can change video streaming settings from high definition to standard definition, which is similar to DVD quality, with one swipe in their MyRogers app, giving any line on their plan the ability to watch even more video. For example, a customer can watch up to 18 minutes of standard definition video on YouTube compared to 6 minutes in high definition, all while using the same amount of data.

“We want our customers to get the most out their plan and providing solutions that allow them to manage their family’s data is a big priority,” said Raj Doshi, Executive Vice President, Wireless, Rogers Communications. “This new feature means families can stream, share on social media, and connect with what matters, worry-free.”

Stream SaverTM is the latest enhancement of Rogers worry-free data management solution which gives families full control of managing their data in real-time through MyRogers. The industry-leading solution, exclusive to Share Everything customers, lets the data manager set customized data alerts for each member of the family, top up data for the month and pause data usage on any line in the plan.

Since introducing the tool last year to empower customers by giving them more control of their data usage, there has been a significant drop in customer calls related to data usage, while customers who use the tool are more satisfied with their service.

Stream Saver is available on desktop starting today and will launch in the MyRogers app on Android and iOS in the coming days. For more information visit www.rogers.com/data.

Will it stream in high def when using Wifi?

    Thank you.!

    • RogersPaul says:

Hi Carol, thank you for connecting with us here. Stream Saver only applies to video streamed over the cellular network. Video streamed over Wi-Fi is not affected. If you’re streaming HD video while on Wi-Fi, this content will be in HD even if you turn Stream Saver on.

I installed 3 times as instructed. The same evening we were watching Netflix and the picture kept breaking up. The picture quality was terrible. I went into 3 times.and switched it off. Netflix picture quality is back to normal, I don’t recommend using the service until they have the bugs out of it. Just one man’s

Interesting this is only available for share everything plan. Will a similar feature be made available for others like the older corporate plans?

    • RogersMike says:

Hi Mark, we don’t have any additional information at this time regarding our older plans. Will pass along your feedback to the team.

I’m asking also (again) whether this feature will (not as likely given a year or so) be implemented for older (loyal) unchanged longtime committed single user never strayed to another carrier kept faithfully paying the bills monthly even when overages went twice to 3 times the monthly regular bill in the way back when data was touted to be when a person was normal (as per what carriers thought normal) if they used 100 megs per month and I and pretty much everyone else used 2 gigs pretty easily per month and were near lawsuits lol because they thought or were thought to be abnormal because of their useage run on sentence. Now it’s normal (but still abnormal) to chew through 6 gigs shared so just 3 times the data of what we pay now as it’s not costing one iota of air molecules in doing so. Could that be implemented to the Rogers scene?

For those of you on older plans, you can manually adjust the quality of your videos on YouTube to a lower quality in the settings option. This should save you data in the same way. This has always been an option – but its like watching a VHS tape on a 4k tv. Up to you. Hope this helps.
