Company investing in its networks to boost connectivity in Vancouver for soccer’s biggest event
Crews spent almost 7,000 hours planning and installing new network infrastructure
VANCOUVER – As Vancouver gets ready to welcome global soccer fans, Rogers today announced upgrades to its 5G+ network to bring visitors and residents its best network experience.
“As Canada’s best 5G+ network, we continue to invest in venues so fans can stay connected when it matters most,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer at Rogers. “These enhancements ensure our network is ready for global events like FIFA, while delivering long‑term benefits for Canadians in Vancouver.”
5G+ networks are critical to support the large number of fans at live stadium events, delivering faster speeds, lower latency and more capacity.
The company has invested $5 million to enhance network coverage in key areas across Vancouver, including:
- Deploying additional 5G+ spectrum and technology in BC Place, building on the $10 million network investment in the venue ahead of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour – the equivalent of 22 cell towers in downtown Vancouver
- Additional 5G+ upgrades at fan zone locations as well as hotels and SkyTrain stations, helping ensure consistent connectivity as visitors move throughout the city
- Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light Facilities to support high‑traffic areas in downtown Vancouver. These temporary cell sites deliver faster speeds, lower latency and greater reliability for customers during the tournament.
Rogers 5G+ Ultimate plan customers can experience Priority Network Access, giving customers front of the line access to our fastest speeds available even at peak times. Priority Network Access is the first and only service of its kind in Canada for consumers.
