Rogers introduces its new wireless home internet service across more than 100 communities, powered by Canada’s most reliable network*
TORONTO (October 20, 2020) Rogers Communications today announced the next step in its commitment to connect more rural and remote communities in Ontario with the launch of its wireless home broadband internet service. Residents across more than 100 communities in Southwestern Ontario including areas around Halton Hills, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls will have the option to choose Rogers wireless home internet service to help keep them connected to the people and things that matter most.
“Now, more than ever, it is critical that all Canadians, no matter where they live, have access to a dependable network and internet services to stay connected,” said Eric Bruno, SVP – 5G, Content and Connected Home Products, Rogers Communications. “With wireless home internet, Rogers can reach more Canadians in smaller, rural communities that today either have no or limited broadband options, making it easier to work, study and socialize from home.”
Rogers wireless home internet service leverages its Wireless network and infrastructure to deliver broadband to the home. Select towers are equipped to support the increased usage and small antennas are set up on customer’s homes and positioned towards the towers to transmit the signal. This technology provides broadband to residents in rural and remote communities that are harder to reach with a fibre-optic network.
“Today, access to reliable broadband is a necessity for Ontario families – especially in our rural communities,” said Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and MPP for Oxford. “It is fantastic to see this initiative by Rogers, which will help connect more people in remote and rural areas with home internet service and provide more opportunities for employment, education and communicating with friends and family.”
In response to Covid-19, Rogers accelerated its network expansion plans to help close the digital divide within its cable footprint through various initiatives including partnering with Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) to bring services to Dufferin, Norfolk and recently announced Oxford Counties in Ontario. Through its SWIFT partnership, Rogers has invested $9.87 million to connect 91.4 kilometers of underserved roads, servicing more than 2,600 homes and business.
Rogers Internet 25 is available with download speeds of up to 25 Mbps with plans starting at $69.99 for 100 GB of data usage per month. For service availability, contact 1-844-256-0052.
