Rogers brings innovative 5G technology to connect rural residents and businesses in Holland Marsh
In partnership with CENGN, Rogers will provide residents and businesses with new ways to access reliable Home Broadband Internet and Mobile Wireless services
Building on its commitment to improve connectivity for Canadians in rural and remote regions, Rogers will bring 5G connectivity to the residents and businesses of Holland Marsh in partnership with CENGN (Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks) and the government of Ontario.
Commonly known as the “vegetable patch” of Ontario, Holland Marsh is comprised of approx. 2,800 hectares of fertile soil, which provides the foundation for many businesses including local farms and wineries1. To help bridge the digital divide, Rogers has developed an innovative 5G technology solution that relies on e-band microwave to expand bandwidth capabilities to bring 5G Fixed and Mobile Wireless Access to more communities in rural and remote areas. Today, the Holland Marsh region has limited connectivity with the majority of residents and businesses not having access to reliable internet. As a result, it impacts the ability to leverage the latest technology to improve business operations. By introducing e-band technology, Rogers can reach more farmers and winemakers by providing 5G capability that will support advances in agriculture technology such as vehicles and equipment that often rely on wireless connectivity.
Rogers will provide wireless connectivity along the Town of Bradford West Gwilimbury and King Township to up to 480 homes and businesses. This 5G capability to improve connectivity, including faster speeds, low latency and higher capacity to support more connected devices. Residents and business owners will have access to a range of services including 5G wireless connectivity and improved Home Broadband internet. With faster speeds and higher capacity, 5G Fixed Wireless Access has the potential to transform the food systems in Canada and Rogers believes connecting agricultural areas is critical for the future. The ability to deploy and connect sensors or cameras with near real time data feeds, improve automation and monitoring is vital to enable farming communities to continue to deliver sustainable and affordable food sources.
This project is expected to begin in the summer of 2021 with services available in the fall of 2021. Stay tuned as we continue to expand 5G Fixed Wireless Access to more communities in the future.
