Stadium concerts are about more than just listening to music – fans want to capture and share their experiences. As part of its commitment to bringing fans the best in communications and entertainment, Rogers is bringing the latest technology to Rogers Stadium, the new seasonal outdoor concert venue at YZD (former Downsview Airport Lands) in Toronto.
Building the 5G Network at Rogers Stadium
Through a $5.2 million investment, Rogers installed a new 5G+ in-building network system and antenna infrastructure to support 50,000 fans at the new venue. With faster speeds, lower latency and more capacity, 5G+ technology is critical to managing the large volume of data used by fans at concerts.
“We’ve built an entirely new 5G+ network at Rogers Stadium for music fans,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer. “Concertgoers use record amounts of data, and the new network will ensure they have the best connectivity.”
The Rogers team spent 3,800 hours planning and 2,300 hours installing the equipment, including over 50 antennas around the lower bowl and at the top of Rogers Stadium over 20 metres from the ground, to provide fans with reliable and consistent coverage wherever they are seated. The infrastructure is equivalent to the coverage provided by 14 towers in a downtown area.
Last year, Rogers invested $8 million to upgrade its 5G network at Rogers Centre in Toronto and $10 million to install a new in-building network system at BC Place in Vancouver for the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in Canada.
