LONDON, ON (May 25, 2017) Rogers and London & Middlesex Housing Corporation (LMHC) are teaming up to make affordable high-speed internet available to more than 3,200 low-income London area households with Rogers’ Connected for Success program. The partnership will enable rent-geared-income LMHC tenants to participate in the digital economy via Rogers’ $9.99 monthly high-speed internet program.

LMHC is the 160th housing provider to partner with Rogers on Connected for Success. Since launching Connected for Success in 2013, Rogers has made significant investments in the program with the goal of bridging the digital divide for up to 150,000 households across Rogers cable footprint in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

“In this ever-evolving connected world, we live in an age where access to the internet is absolutely vital – it’s how we make medical appointments, manage our bank accounts, and sign our children up for after school programs,” said Peter King, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Rogers. “Rogers’ partnership with London & Middlesex Housing Corporation will enable us to bridge the digital divide for London area residents by connecting them to vital community services.”

A 2015 Ipsos-Reid study found that while 91% of Canadians currently have access the internet at home, the number drops to 70% in households with an annual income under $25,000.

“Having easy and affordable access to the internet is essential in 2017. This is another way we’re breaking down barriers,” said London Mayor Matt Brown. “We need to ensure people have all the tools they need to succeed and I am so pleased to see Rogers and London & Middlesex Housing Corporation coming together to make this a reality.”

“LMHC is very excited for the opportunity to partner with Rogers for the Connected for Success program. Our tenants will now have the opportunity to connect to so many important resources online that will improve their quality of life at an affordable price,” said Josh Browne, Chief Executive Officer, LMHC. “This program is truly life changing for so many people and demonstrates LMHC’s commitment in supporting high-speed internet as a basic service for all Canadians.”

Connected for Success requires no contract or credit checks upon sign up, and includes speeds of up to 10 Mbps download and up to 1 Mbps upload.

Rogers also offers Internet 5, a low-cost service for $24.99 (Modem rental $8/month extra) that is available to anyone within Rogers’ internet service area.
