Rogers Satellite Makes It Easy to Stay Connected While Exploring the Great Canadian Outdoors

Rogers Satellite, a first of its kind service in Canada, now supports Messenger and onX.

Just as the weather is warming up and people spend more time outdoors, these apps help hikers, fishers, hunters, and travellers stay connected, even in remote regions or highways where traditional cell coverage is not available.

“Canadians should be able to stay connected no matter where their travels take them,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer, Rogers. “With Rogers Satellite now powering these apps, customers can stay on top of weather, find their way on remote highways and trails, and check in with family when they’re beyond the reach of traditional cell towers.”

These satellite-supported apps transform your smartphone into a navigation and safety tool so customers can:

  • Send quick check-ins and updates though voice, video calls, and messages on Messenger.
  • Explore with confidence using onX’s industry-leading outdoor navigation apps, including land ownership, trails, navigation, and offline weather forecasts with real-time data, so you can plan and adapt instantly when conditions change.

On top of these new apps, Rogers Satellite already supports video and voice calling through WhatsApp, Google Maps, AccuWeather, X, as well as text-to-911.

Top destinations for Rogers Satellite include Lacs-du-Témiscamingue, Quebec; the Garibaldi/Sea-to-Sky Region, British Columbia; Canmore, Alberta; and Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.
