Long-term investment by school board will ensure that students benefit
    from leading-edge learning opportunities

AURORA, ON, May 9 /CNW/ - York Region District School Board and Rogers
Business Solutions have announced the completion of enhanced network
connectivity for all elementary and secondary public schools in the Region in
a 10-year, $15 million investment.
"This high capacity network is a long-term investment by the school board
that will ensure that our students benefit from the most modern learning
opportunities available today," said Bill Crothers, Board Chair, York Region
District School Board. "Rogers Business Solutions demonstrated that they
understood our mission and our 'anytime, anywhere access vision'. This
technology will allow the Board to continue to ensure that the base
requirements for new technology and 21st century learning objectives are met."
Rogers will provide a broadband wide area network linking all elementary
and secondary schools and administrative facilities with fibre optics. The
high capacity network will include the provisioning of multiple voice, data,
video and Internet protocol (IP) services through a simple and cost effective
design. Each of the schools will be wired with fibre optics and linked through
the Rogers IP network, providing a cost-effective extension of the School
Board's local area networks, using Rogers' shared IP infrastructure.
The state-of-the-art network will allow students to access learning and
educational resources available on the Internet, and will enable teachers to
manage classroom data and information online.
"Rogers is very pleased to be working with the York Region District
School Board to provide leading edge network services and solutions that offer
students in York Region a richer learning experience," said Tony Ciciretto,
