Edward S. Rogers Sr. (1900-1939) was a groundbreaking Canadian inventor and a pivotal figure in the development of the radio industry.
Born in Toronto, Edward developed a keen interest in electronics from the age of 11 when he saw a receiver for the first time. At age 13, local newspapers were recognizing his talent for operating a radio station. And at age 21, he had constructed Canada’s first battery-less radio receiver – which not only democratized radio ownership, but also spurred the growth of the broadcasting industry.
In 1925, Edward founded the Rogers Vacuum Tube Company and the Rogers Batteryless Radio Company, solidifying his position as a leading entrepreneur in the field. His relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation also led him to establish CFRB (Canada’s First Rogers Batteryless) in 1927, which became one of Canada’s most influential radio stations.
Edward’s legacy is marked by his profound impact on the radio industry and his visionary approach to technology.
