Rogers Celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day with our customers and communities

It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day and we join our customers and community partners in celebrating the rich history and heritage of Indigenous Peoples from coast to coast to coast. We remain committed to making a meaningful impact on our collective journey of truth and reconciliation.

Connectivity

As part of our ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation, we are investing in our networks to connect Indigenous communities across the country. In December, we announced 50 kilometres of 5G cellular connectivity on sections of Highway 16, bringing access to 911 and wireless service along these stretches for the first time.

Once all the project’s towers are completed, Rogers will provide 252 kilometres of new cellular coverage along Highway 16, providing seamless wireless coverage between Prince George and Prince Rupert.  a safer environment for travel and fulfilling one of the recommendations in the 2006 Highway of Tears Symposium report to enhance safety for Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people.

Culture

In our Moncton office, located on the unceded territories of the Mi’kma’ki and Wabanaki Peoples, we also opened our fourth Downie-Wenjack Legacy Space earlier this year. These initiatives are part of our commitment to creating safe, welcoming spaces dedicated to providing education and awareness about Indigenous history, art and culture.

As part of our commitment to supporting Indigenous storytellers and ensuring equitable access to funding and opportunities, we were pleased to participate in the recent Indigenous Screen Summit Pitch Forum in Banff as a new presenting partner providing multi-year support to the initiative. The program provides a unique platform for talented Indigenous creators to bring their ideas to international industry leaders, for audiences here and abroad. (Above photo credit: Kristian Bogner)
