TORONTO, Jan. 5 /CNW/ – More than 5 million viewers (2+ total reach)
watched the 26th annual Citytv New Year’s Bash LIVE broadcast from Nathan Phillips Square in Canada combined on Citytv
in all markets and OMNI.2 in Ontario, preliminary overnight data
reveals, making it the #1 watched New Year’s special in Canada. 

During its broadcast peak at midnight, the two-hour and ten minute New
Year’s special captured a 49% share (A18-34), 50% share (A18-49), and
49% share (A25-54) in Toronto representing 369,000, 795,900, and
716,100 viewers respectively.

Hosted by Citytv personalities Gord Martineau, Tracy Moore, Kevin Frankish and Dina
Pugliese
, the Citytv New Year’s Bash is one of the biggest New Year’s celebrations in Canada.  This year’s
celebration drew crowds of over 40,000 people to Nathan Phillips Square
in downtown Toronto and thousands more forced road closures on
surrounding Queen and Bay streets.  Leading up to the broadcast,
Citytv’s Rogers Petersen and radio personality, Taylor Kaye from 92.5
KISS-FM fired-up the crowd with an entertaining pre-show. 

Musical performances by superstar, Blake McGrath; Juno Award winning
singer, Shawn Desman; pop music star, Danny Fernandes; Juno nominees,
Stereos; music sensation from Chilliwack BC, These Kids Wear Crowns;
and the soulful songstress, Divine Brown rocked the stage with hit
singles until the countdown.  Following an elaborate fireworks show,
Canadian brothers, Shawn Desman and Danny Fernandes, surprised the
crowd with an exclusive performance – singing for the first time
together on television.

Citytv also offered the only Canadian New Year’s special LIVE on iPAD. 
The online users who watched the 2011 Citytv New Year’s Bash that streamed LIVE online at Citytv.com more than doubled over last year.
