40% of Canadian Women in their 40s(ish) Have Sex at Least Once a Week; 33% Less Than Once a Month, Chatelaine Survey Reveals

TORONTO, ON (January 10, 2017) Chatelaine’s second annual This is 40(ish) survey digs even deeper into the secret lives of 35-to-45-year-old Canadian women. From how often they fantasize about sex and how often they drink alone, to what makes them feel most guilty as a parent, the survey reveals what Canadian women really think about sex, love, work, health, money, and self-esteem.

#ThisIs40ish survey results and accompanying videos are available now on Chatelaine.com and in Chatelaine‘s February issue on Texture.

Plus, the iconic brand is now introducing the Chatelaine Emoji! Capturing many of the survey’s themes, Chatelaine’s witty new emoji app brings women the shorthands they really need for better texting – like a pint of ice cream, a hot-water bottle, and comfortable, high-waisted underwear – with an exclusive emoji keyboard, now available in the App Store.

#ThisIs40ish survey highlights at-a-glance:

  • 60% of women in relationships fantasize about being single again; and 26% say that in the past year, they’ve been attracted to someone other than their partner
  • 40% of women say having kids diminished the amount of sex they have, while 13% said having kids killed their sex lives altogether
  • 49% find Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attractive
  • While having more authority, flexibility and challenging work would all be great, 44% of women say that more money is the biggest thing they want in their jobs
  • When it comes to undies, 89% of women opt for comfy over sexy
  • 92% of women refuse to lie about their age

Canadians can join the conversation on Twitter and Facebook today using the hashtag #ThisIs40ish.

Methodology
The survey was conducted online with 1,029 women between the ages of 35 and 45 in Canada, from August 19 to 22, 2016. A random sample of panellists were invited to complete the survey from a large representative panel of Canadians, recruited and managed by Research Now, one of the world’s leading providers of online research samples.

The Marketing Research and Intelligence Association policy limits statements about margins of sampling error for most online surveys. The margin of error for a comparable probability-based random sample of the same size is +/− 3.1%, 19 times out of 20, for each province’s sample. The data were weighted according to census data to ensure that the sample matched Canada’s according to age, gender, educational attainment and region. Totals may not add up to 100 due to rounding.
