Canadians to join in the fight against cancer, Citytv, CTV and Global
Television will broadcast Stand Up To Cancer, a one-hour fundraising special
that will educate viewers and raise funds for cutting-edge cancer research,
Friday, September 5 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings). The fundraising event
will bring together major television networks, entertainment industry
executives, celebrities, athletes and prominent leaders in cancer treatment,
research and patient advocacy.
    In Canada, Citytv, CTV and Global Television will air the special in
simulcast with American networks ABC, CBS and NBC. In a primetime first
Citytv, CTV, and Global will donate one hour of simultaneous commercial-free
prime-time coverage of the nationally-televised event geared towards educating
the public about scientific breakthroughs in cancer prevention, detection, and
treatment.
    Canadians will be able to participate in the event and support Stand Up
To Cancer through a toll-free telephone number (Dial 888-90-STAND
(888-907-8263) to donate using a credit card) and make online donations at
www.standup2cancer.org.
    The Stand Up to Cancer special will feature live performances by
legendary artists and appearances by over 50 stars of television, film, sports
and music who will be answering calls from viewers in the live phone bank.
Also, celebrities will participate in educational filmed content about various
types of cancer, screening techniques and cutting-edge advancements in
treatment and research.
    Some celebrities lending their support to the televised benefit include:
Sally Field, Meryl Streep, Hilary Swank, Salma Hayek, Charlize Theron, Casey
Affleck, Forest Whitaker, Scarlett Johansson, Christina Applegate, Julia
Louis-Dreyfus, Jennifer Aniston, Lance Armstrong and American Idol winner
David Cook. Additionally, American news anchors Katie Couric, Charles Gibson
and Brian Williams will speak with experts conducting cancer research and
making potentially life-saving discoveries.

    While experts are on the cusp of many scientific breakthroughs, funding
for these cutting-edge treatments and clinical tests is often unavailable.
During the live telecast, viewers will be able to donate to Stand Up to Cancer

grants to cancer researchDream Teams. The money raised from the public will
support Dream Teams of highly accomplished expert researchers around the
