On December 5, Marco Corbeil, a member of our Rogers for Business (R4B) team, laced up his running shoes and hit the road in the middle of the night. With each stride, he was helping sick kids as part of 24hrs Tremblant, an annual event where participants team up to run, ski, walk, or snowboard over 24 hours to raise funds for Foundation Charles-Bruneau, The Foundation CHEO and the Foundation Tremblant to support kids who are sick or in need.
Rogers returned once again as a sponsor for 24hrs Tremblant. In this our third year as a proud sponsor, we tripled employee participation with more than 150 employees from Quebec and the Ottawa area joining in to raise more than $139,000 for the 24hrs Tremblant Foundation. During such a difficult year, it was inspiring to see so many Rogers employees come out to help this deserving cause to make up the largest team in the event!
Since this year looked a little different, team captains faced some hurdles. Divided into 10 teams, instead of participating in the 24hrs Tremblant together, shoulder to shoulder, participants would complete their hours solo in their own neighbourhoods – and captains needed creative ways to keep the teams connected and motivated. But in the end, there’s only one reason that mattered.
For Marco, who traded his ski poles for a pair of running shoes, the hardest part was going out in the middle of the night. “It wasn’t easy to go out, but once I left, I felt serene,” he said. “After all, I wasn’t running for myself, I was running for sick kids. Just thinking about them and what they go through during their treatment, I felt I owed it to them.” Over the last three years at 24hrs Tremblant, Marco has raised than $20,000 for these children and a cause that is near and dear to his heart.
Everyone has their own reasons for participating. Giancarlo Martoccia, also from R4B, was overwhelmed when he heard the moving stories about these sick children at his first 24hrs Tremblant in 2019. And this year – even though he couldn’t go to the mountain – he was just as motivated to participate. “Last year, I could see how 24hrs Tremblant helps children,” he said. “So this year, no matter what the format, I wanted to continue to contribute to their well-being and make a difference.
Overcoming obstacles to continue giving back to those who need us most.
