Connecting Canadians: Rogers’ high-speed internet services coming to the residents of Simcoe County

TORONTO, ON (June 30, 2021) – Rogers Communications today announced that it has been awarded a partnership with the Government of Canada’s Universal Broadband Fund (UBF), to bring fast, reliable, high-speed internet service to Simcoe County residents.

“The past year has shown us how essential connectivity is to people’s lives,” said Phil Hartling, Executive Vice President, Service Expansion, Rogers Communications. “High-speed internet is essential to staying connected to loved ones, learning virtually, running a business or working from home and that is why we are pleased to be working alongside the Government of Canada to bring connectivity to more residents in Simcoe County.”

Rogers has been awarded three projects through the UBF to expand its network and help improve broadband in underserved communities. Through a total joint investment of over $3.2 million, Rogers will expand its fibre optic network across the area to enable it to deliver broadband service with download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second and continued support for increased speeds in the future.

Across Simcoe County, Rogers will expand its network by 44 kilometres and will serve over 1,000 homes in Gamebridge, Bass Lake and Orr Lake. Construction is expected to begin by the Fall and be completed by mid-February 2022. When completed, residents will have more choice for broadband services and will have access to Rogers next-generation services, including Ignite Internetand Ignite TV™, Rogers revolutionary TV service.

Rogers investments will bring reliable Internet to more than 500,000 households in rural and underserved communities by the end of 2021. To help close the digital divide and improve the lives of Canadians, Rogers is partnering with communities and governments through programs like the Improving Connectivity for Ontarians (ICON) program, the Universal Broadband Fund (UBF), Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT), and the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN).
