Interview with 2018 Ted Rogers Scholarship Recipient Elliott McWilliams

Elliot McWilliams

1. Where do you volunteer – what’s your favourite thing about what you do?

Of all my volunteering opportunities, my favourite one has to be Challenger Baseball. I love coming to the ballfield on Sunday and seeing the smiles everywhere, on buddies’ and players’ faces alike. It’s an amazing program, and I’m so thankful that I get to be part of it and contribute to it!

2. Why was receiving a Ted Rogers Scholarship special?

I felt incredibly honoured to just be nominated for this award, let alone to recieve it! I am so thankful for the kind words of my coordinator, who has done so much for me, especially in nominating me for this scholarship. However, the main reason I felt honoured to recieve the Ted Rogers Scholarship was because it recognized my volunteering. It’s awesome to be rewarded for my hard work with Challenger – which in itself is incredibly rewarding.

3. Where do you plan on going to school and what will you study?

I’m starting at the University of British Columbia in September, and I’ll be studying towards a BSc degree in Science. I’m not sure what I’ll major in – probably biology.

4. What are your long-term goals?

My long-term goals include getting my medical degree, starting an orphanage, and truly making a difference in childrens’ lives throughout the world.
