Expanding rural connectivity in the Durham Region
Reliable internet connectivity for rural communities is more important than ever, which is why we announced last year that Ruralwave would be joining Rogers to deliver on our commitment to expand our network. Since 2005, Ruralwave has been a champion for dependable internet connectivity to rural communities in the Durham Region and Kawartha Lakes.
Today, we’re excited to announce that Ruralwave, powered by Rogers, will be partnering with the Government of Canada to bring reliable Internet connectivity to rural communities across Durham Region. Thanks to a joint investment of $1,357,000, the Government of Canada and Ruralwave are able to provide more Ontario residents and businesses with dependable, high-speed broadband and next-generation technology.
“The last year has put a spotlight on the vital role connectivity plays in the lives of Canadians and businesses in communities across Canada,” said Dan Risebrough Barnes, Director of Operations, Ruralwave. “Thank you to the Government of Canada for their support and investment to connect more Canadians to Fixed Wireless Home internet in Clarington and Enniskillen and to high-speed fibre connectivity in Burketon and Tyrone.”
This investment will connect over 300 new homes in Burketon and Tyrone with fibre optic cable, which will deliver download speeds of up to 1 gigabit at launch and will support increased speeds as technology and services evolve. When completed in Fall 2021, customers will have access to the latest broadband technologies and innovative connected home services, including Rogers leading IPTV service, Ignite TVTM.
With this project, Ruralwave, powered by Rogers, will leverage Fixed Wireless Access technology to reach an additional 444 homes in Clarington and Enniskillen with Fixed Wireless Home internet. Utilizing cellular towers, this technology delivers broadband services where fibre is difficult to lay and maintain.
This investment is one of the many ways that we are delivering on our commitment to improve home internet connectivity in rural communities from coast to coast to coast.
