Fido wraps up search with a $200,000 donation to Dog Guides Canada

TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2012 /CNW/ – With local parks full of pampered
pooches and camera-ready pups – only one dog made it through the fierce
competition to the top of the pack. Today, Mitra Khorasani’s Pomeranian
pooch Truffle, from Vancouver, British Columbia was declared the
winning dog of the Fido Casting Call™ 2 contest.

From August 13th to September 10th, more than 9,000 Canadians entered their dogs into Fido Casting Call 2 at www.FidoCastingCall.ca. Truffle earned the winning spot by obtaining the most votes from
Canadian online voters during the four-week contest and will now star
in an upcoming Fido ad. With great support from all of the local
community events and online votes on the Fido Facebook page, Fido will
donate $200,000 to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides to train
and place 10 Dog Guides with Canadians with disabilities.

“We loved the enthusiasm Fido fans and dog lovers across the country
demonstrated for their dogs and the support they gave to the
contestants and our community partner Dog Guides Canada,” said Steven
Sarfin, Senior Director, Marketing, Fido. “We are thrilled to
demonstrate how dogs are enriching the lives of Canadians and continue
to support our partnership with Dog Guides Canada.”

“We are incredibly grateful to have been a part of this fantastic
contest!  Not only does it celebrate canine companions, but it
highlights the unique ways they enrich the lives of Canadians with
disabilities,” said Sandy Turney, Executive Director, Lions Foundation
of Canada Dog Guides.
