detectives who investigate sexually based crimes. Lead by Captain Donald
Cragen (Dann Florek) this elite force must tackle the complex and sometimes
unpredictable cases that come through the door on a daily basis. The drama
follows Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), a seasoned veteran of
the unit who has seen it all, and his partner, Detective Olivia Benson
(Mariska Hargitay), who joined the unit as a way of coping with her difficult
past and history of rape. Rounding out the team is Detective John Munch,
(Richard Belzer) a hard-nosed transfer from Baltimore's homicide unit and his
partner, Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-T), who's unique sense of humor
and investigative experience make him a formidable match for Munch. Together,
the Special Victims Unit confronts some of the most horrifying crimes in New
York City all the while trying to balance their personal lives and supporting
each other in the line of duty.
