TORONTO, June 26, 2014 /CNW/ – Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada is headed east to the beautiful banks of the Atlantic Ocean to celebrate Canada’s beloved game from the heart of historic Halifax.  The annual hockey tradition takes place on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, with Ron MacLean hosting the festivities from Halifax.

The 13-hour broadcast will be headlined by an NHL tripleheader, featuring five national game broadcasts with all seven Canadian NHL teams in action.  (See broadcast schedule below).  Additional details surrounding Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will be announced in the coming months.

This marks the 15th anniversary of the annual hockey broadcast.

Halifax has a tremendous hockey history, and is a vibrant Canadian community – a perfect combination for hosting Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada,” said Joel Darling, Executive Producer, NHL Special Events, Rogers. “This region has a strong tradition of supporting all facets of hockey – from grassroots, to junior hockey, to the NHL. Halifax is the ideal location to celebrate the 15th anniversary of this special event.”

“Scotiabank is excited to partner with Rogers to bring Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada to Canadians across the country and, this year, to the people and communities of Halifax,” said Craig Thompson, Scotiabank Senior Vice President of Atlantic Region. “Hockey has a special way of bringing our community together, whether it is catching games at the newly named Scotiabank Centre here in Halifax or playing on local rinks and ponds across our province.  Scotiabank supports hockey at all levels, from the NHL to the community level with our support of over 5,000 minor hockey teams across the country. We believe it is important to have a team to believe in and we’re looking forward to celebrating the sportsmanship and teamwork of this great sport in Halifax in 2015.”

“This is fantastic news for hockey-mad Halifax,” said Mayor Mike Savage. “With locally-grown heroes like Nathan MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby, and championship teams like the Halifax Mooseheads, Halifax is a natural home for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada. We’re extremely proud to host an event which celebrates Canada’s game and showcases our contribution to its bright future.”
