Helping Ukrainian arrivals to Canada stay connected to loved ones and resources

Every day, people from Ukraine escaping the ongoing armed conflict in their country are arriving in Canada, often with very little but the clothes on their backs and a suitcase.

At select airports across Canada, they are being greeted by volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross who, at the request of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada, are providing registration, translation services, information to help people get settled, and referrals to additional supports.

To help provide immediate, emergency connectivity when first arriving in Canada, people displaced from Ukraine may also receive a pre-paid chatr Mobile SIM card in their welcome kit, distributed by the Canadian Red Cross at select airports.  This will help them easily get connected to resources and stay in touch with loved ones back home.  Rogers is also currently waiving long-distance and SMS charges to Ukraine, and roaming charges for any Canadian customers currently in the country.

“Being separated from family and friends during a crisis can be devastating for the people who are impacted. We thank Rogers for their support in helping people who have been displaced due to the conflict in Ukraine stay connected with their loved ones. These prepaid chatr SIM cards will help to provide vital access to information, as well as a connection back home as people from Ukraine adjust to life in Canada.”

Rogers Sports & Media produced a powerful video public service announcement featuring our popular media personalities, all driving donations to the Canadian Red Cross. The PSA spotlights artwork inspired by Ukrainian artist Oksana Drachkovska.

Last month, Rogers made a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross and launched a text-to-donate campaign to further support the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis.

All Canadians can donate $5 by texting the word ROGERS to 20222 (EN) or 30333 (FR), or any amount by visiting www.redcross.ca/UkraineCrisis/Rogers. 100% of the donations will go to the Canadian Red Cross’ relief efforts in Ukraine.
