OMNI Television Announces 2019 Lunar New Year Holiday Programming, Beginning Feb. 4

TORONTO (January 31, 2019) To celebrate the Year of the Pig, OMNI Television is rolling out a roster of festive Lunar New Year programming, including the annual special Celebrating the Year of the Pig, and China’s premier television event CCTV Beijing – Chinese New Year Gala. Also, don’t forget to tune in to a special viewing of The Monkey King 3 and Beautiful Accident during Chinese Super Cinema Night. It all begins here, on OMNI Television, starting Monday, Feb. 4.

Premiering on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. (Mandarin) and 7 p.m. (Cantonese) is OMNI’s annual Lunar New Year special Celebrating the Year of the Pig. Hosted by Wei Lee and Jie Yang in Mandarin and Kenneth Li and Karen So in Cantonese, this Lunar New Year festival is packed with traditional dances, cooking, fashion, and music, including a performance by the Toronto Chinese Youth Orchestra. Also, don’t miss the two-part CCTV Beijing – Chinese New Year Gala, premiering Sunday, Feb. 10. Known as a premier television event in China and a must-watch ritual in every Chinese household, this gala features traditional dance, acrobatics, and comedy and drama performances.

From there, the celebrations continue with a special viewing of The Monkey King 3, starring Allie Chan (Summer’s Desire, The Sword of Love), Shaofeng Feng (Wolf Totem, White Vengeance), and Aaron Kwok (City Under Siege, After This Our Exile). After a travelling monk and his followers find themselves in a wasteland, it is up to a young queen (Allie Chan) to rescue them. On Sunday, Feb. 17, a career-driven attorney gets a second chance at life following a fatal tragedy in Beautiful Accident, starring Lun-Mei Kwei (Girlfriend Boyfriend, Black Coal Thin Ice) as Li Yuran and Jingchun Wang (The Flowers of War, The Witness) as Station Master Wang.

Rounding out the schedule are special editions of language newscasts – Focus Mandarin, Focus Cantonese, OMNI News: Cantonese Edition, and OMNI News: Mandarin Edition – to keep OMNI audiences in the know about celebrations happening across the communities that matter to them most.
