Dec 11, 2008
Rogers' 3.5G Next Generation Network Brings Unparalleled Speeds to Mobile Devices Coast to CoastTORONTO, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - Rogers Wireless today unveiled the national availability of its 3.5G next generation network, the fastest mobile network in Canada. Rogers is the first North American wireless carrier to offer customers peak downloads of 7.2Mbps on a national network. Now operating from coast-to-coast, the Rogers 3.5G network ranks amongst some of the fastest mobile networks around the globe, allowing customers to communicate in innovative ways with mobile multimedia, download large files ultra-fast and utilize Internet speeds on the go that are similar to a standard broadband connection. "With Rogers' 7.2 HSPA network, by far the fastest mobile network in Canada, Canadians can today experience even faster broadband download speeds on their cellphones, smartphones and laptops," said John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless. "As we've seen with recent announcements, wireless service providers across Canada and internationally are trying to catch up by making the switch to the HSPA standard which Rogers embraced more than three years ago because of the unique benefits it provides our customers. And with today's national availability of Canada's fastest mobile network, we'll continue to offer the best wireless services and newest innovations to Canadians from Halifax to Victoria." The 7.2 Mbps High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network is the latest and fastest 3G service available, an evolution of the world-dominant GSM network exclusively offered to Canadians by Rogers since 2001. The 7.2Mbps HSPA network offers mobile download speeds that are up to twice as fast as the current industry-leading 3.6Mbps HSPA service offered by Rogers - already Canada's fastest mobile network - and is the first in the country to offer Canadians a true mobile broadband experience. According to the GSM Association, although there are more than 1,000 wireless carriers around the globe, fewer than 50 carriers in 30 countries currently offer customers access to a 7.2Mbps HSPA network. Rogers 7.2Mbps Mobile Devices Rogers Wireless currently offers the following 7.2Mbps HSPA-enabled devices: the HTC Touch Diamond, the LG Vu T915, the Novatel MC950D Rocket Stick and the Novatel X950D Express card.
