Rogers Delivers World-Class Network Experience for Soccer Fans on Canada’s Best 5G+ Network
Rogers 5G+ network carries 510TB of wireless data at soccer’s biggest event in Canada
Total network traffic equivalent of uploading 102 million photos
TORONTO – Rogers delivered a world-class network experience and record traffic as Canada hosted soccer’s biggest event, carrying a total 510 terabytes (TB) of data for fans and visitors.
Rogers invested $27 million to keep soccer fans connected at FIFA matches in Toronto and Vancouver. With 13 World Cup matches in the two cities, soccer fans used 510TB of data on Canada’s best 5G+ network at the stadiums and surrounding areas including watch parties and fan zones. That’s the equivalent of sharing 102 million photos.

As Canada’s best 5G+ network, we invested $27 million and led upgrades in Toronto and in Vancouver to bring fans the best experience, whether they were at the stadium, watch parties, or fan zones,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer, Rogers. “These enhancements delivered a world-class network experience for this global event and will also bring long-term benefits for the local Toronto community.”
5G+ networks are critical to support the large number of fans at live stadium events like the World Cup, delivering faster speeds, lower latency and more capacity.
The $27 million improvements to bring the latest 5G+ technology to soccer fans in Toronto include:
- Enhancing the in-stadium wireless system, the equivalent of adding 16 cell towers in downtown Toronto
- Deploying additional 5G+ spectrum to deliver faster speeds and more capacity for fans in the venue
- Installing additional network infrastructure outside the stadium and at fan zone locations throughout the city, as well as hotels and transportation hubs including Pearson International Airport, Union Station and some TTC subway stations.
The company also deployed Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light Facilities to support high‑traffic areas in downtown Toronto. These temporary cell sites delivered faster speeds, lower latency and greater reliability for customers during the tournament.
