Rogers Improves Wireless Service Across Alberta

Rogers and Fido customers will experience faster speeds, more reliable coverage
between Banff and Calgary and in Lethbridge

CALGARY, Aug. 28, 2017 /CNW/ – Rogers today announced it continues to invest in communities across Alberta with expanded LTE wireless service in Lethbridge and between Banff and Calgary.

Rogers and Fido customers will have an improved wireless experience and more seamless coverage to make calls, access the Internet, and stream music and video at the new ATB Centre in West Lethbridge, in residential Lethbridge, and along the Trans-Canada Highway between Banff and Calgary.

“Our customers want to be able to connect to the people and things they love, no matter where they are,” said Raj Doshi, Executive Vice-President, Wireless Services, Rogers Communications. “That’s why we’re investing to make sure they have worry-free, reliable access to our great-performing network in more places. As communities across the province keep growing, we’re going to continue to invest in improving service across Alberta.”

Improvements include:

ATB Centre, Lethbridge – A new cell tower in West Lethbridge now provides Rogers wireless service in the 42,000 square foot ATB Centre to visitors and residents as they take in regional, provincial, and national ice competitions, attractions, and special events. The city’s recreation complex includes two NHL-sized ice rinks, a curling facility, and leisure centre.

Mayor Magrath Drive and 20 Ave. S, Lethbridge – Residents and businesses in this part of Lethbridge now benefit from better access to faster wireless LTE speeds.

Scott Hill Lake – Travellers along the Trans-Canada Highway now have seamless wireless service between Banff and Calgary, with new coverage extending to Morley and Cheneka, improving safety for motorists and a more consistent network experience for residents in these communities.

LTE, the fastest generation of wireless service in Canada, provides stronger, more consistent data speeds, similar to high speed broadband home Internet. With LTE, customers can stream and do more on the go with less buffering. The improved service also provides HD quality voice services when using a device enabled with VoLTE, the latest voice technology. In addition, Rogers has turned on 700 MHz spectrum, the beachfront real estate of spectrum, in these areas. This spectrum provides better coverage in hard to reach places like basements, elevators and buildings with thick concrete walls, meaning customers will have a stronger LTE signal on their device and will be less likely to lose LTE coverage and drop to lower data speeds.
