Apr 12, 2007
Service, municipal, and transportation fleets reduce operational costs with mFLEET - Rogers' wireless asset tracking and logistics solution with GPS location technology TORONTO and MONTREAL, April 12 /CNW/ - Rogers Communications Inc. is launching its own wireless asset tracking and logistics solution, mFleet™. mFleet is a best-in-class wireless fleet management solution based on Rogers' many years of experience in the industry. mFleet's Web-based (ASP) solution services a mix of fleet types - from transportation and logistics truck fleets to service and municipal vehicles. A return on investment of 10 to 15 per cent is possible for companies within 6 to 8 months of implementing the solution. After an extensive two-year review of North American solution providers, Rogers selected WebTech Wireless Inc. of Burnaby, B.C., to be the exclusive application provider to power mFleet. mFleet offers fleet managers and operators real-time automated vehicle mapping, intelligent management reporting, and vehicle diagnostic (health) reports. Using mFleet's Locator hardware with Global Positioning System (GPS) and engine diagnostic technology, messages from vehicles connect in real-time to mFleet Quadrant, a secure, Web-based hosted mapping and reporting software, over the Rogers Wireless network. Each mFleet customer receives automated driver timesheets, custom geofencing, odometer readings, maintenance scheduling and much more. mFleet includes solution offerings for the following needs: service fleets (gas-powered); transportation and logistics fleets (diesel powered); and trailer and asset tracking. "mFleet is the latest example of Rogers investing in innovative wireless business solutions that reduce operational costs and improve customer satisfaction," said Mansell Nelson, Vice President of Business Development, Rogers Wireless. "Rogers has a long history supporting wireless fleet solutions, and we've selected the best, most cost-effective wireless solution to take the guess-work out of fleet management for customers." The benefits of mFleet vary from less engine idling time and fuel consumption, to lower insurance costs through improved vehicle and asset security. It delivers direct return-on-investment for all fleet sizes and truck types. "Organizations are increasingly seeking to deploy wireless technology to boost staff productivity and optimize resource management," said Nathan Dyer, an enterprise mobility analyst in Yankee Group's Enterprise Research group. "Specifically, many operations managers look at their service vehicle and/or truck fleets and recognize that feature rich asset tracking and logistics solutions can play an important role in improving employee performance and reducing business costs. This partnership between Rogers and WebTech Wireless will make these businesses sit up and take notice." "We are dedicated to providing Rogers customers with leading-edge hardware and software," said Anwar Sukkarie, President and CEO, WebTech Wireless. "This partnership allows us to leverage Rogers' sales and marketing strengths, while at the same time focus on the latest research and development technology for asset tracking and fleet management. We will continually provide our customers the latest intelligent reports and mapping to help them drive operational costs from their business. We look forward to leveraging our strengths, with the strengths of Rogers, to provide the best overall customers' experience." mFLEET™ for Services Sector mFleet for Service Fleets improves technician and driver accountability on gas-powered vehicles while allowing dispatchers to optimize routes, schedules and time-sheets. From municipal and utility vehicles to security cars, mFleet will deliver cost-savings within months. Managers will be able to reduce fuel costs, determine maintenance issues before they become costly, and grow revenue by increasing daily service calls. Drivers are also provided with added protection through lone-worker panic buttons. "We have employees that work remotely and in isolation 24/7. Our concern is their safety when working alone with the hazards found at oil and gas locations," said Bob Lewis, Safety Coordinator, Pronghorn Controls Ltd. "With mFleet, we have a real-time system to support our mobile workers in terms of communication and location. "Being able to measure vehicle productivity has also improved our bottom line. mFleet is a key part of our system that addresses worker safety and manages our vehicles on the road." mFLEET™ for Transportation & Logistics Sector mFleet for diesel-powered Transportation & Logistics fleets enables management to improve truck and trailer productivity while reducing downtime and increasing truck utilization. Rogers provides cost-effective U.S. roaming packages for cross-border trucks as well as in-cab mobile data terminals with driver log and fuel tax software, including up-to-date industry compliance parameters. Untethered trailers and other mobile assets can be kept safe by monitoring unauthorized activity and can be better utilized. Refrigeration units (reefers) can be monitored remotely and recorded to ensure the proper temperature of perishable goods or medicines are met.
