Rogers opens Downie-Wenjack Legacy Space in Calgary with Indigenous employees and community members
At Rogers, we are committed to taking meaningful action with Indigenous Peoples on our collective journey of reconciliation, including partnering with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund to build five Legacy Spaces over five years in our offices across the country. Legacy Spaces provide a safe space for Indigenous employees and allies to learn about and reflect on the impact of residential schools.
Earlier this month, we opened our fifth Legacy Space in our Calgary office, following previous openings in Moncton (2024), Montreal (2023), Kelowna (2020), and Toronto (2019). We were honoured to open the new Legacy Space with Indigenous employees and special guests who included members of the Downie and Wenjack families, Indigenous Elders and local Indigenous artists, who consulted on all art and story representation inside the space.
We recognize the new Legacy Space is in the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations, the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney Nakoda), including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations. The City of Calgary is also home to the Otipemisiwak Métis government, Nose Hill Métis District 5, and Elbow Métis District.
