Rogers Wireless roaming milestone

Now 200 destinations for Rogers customers on the go around the globe

TORONTO, Aug. 29 /CNW/ - Rogers Wireless announced today that voice
roaming on its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network is now
available in 200 countries. Rogers reached this 200-country milestone on
July 24, 2007 with a newly-signed roaming agreement between Rogers Wireless
and the mobile operator, Comium Liberia Inc. in the African nation of Liberia.
Rogers has over 500 roaming partners worldwide.
As Canada's only GSM carrier, Rogers is by far leading the way among
Canadian wireless carriers when it comes to offering the most international
voice and data roaming destinations with a selection of 52 world phones.
"Our significant investment in the world-standard GSM technology six
years ago has served our customers well," said John Boynton, SVP and Chief
Marketing Officer. "Now, if you're one of the 7 million customers who have
chosen Rogers Wireless or Fido, you can voice roam in 200 countries - the most
of any Canadian carrier. And you can choose from the country's best and
broadest selection of GSM devices, from HTC's TyTN to RIM's BlackBerry Curve."
Since the launch of Rogers' GSM network in July 2001, the GSM subscriber
base worldwide has exploded from 500 million to more than 2.5 billion. Over
82% of the world's wireless subscribers are on a GSM network; making it the
most widely used wireless technology in the world.
In the fall of 2006, Rogers reached a major milestone in network
investment and expansion by launching the country's only HSDPA (High-Speed
Downlink Packet Access) network, the latest evolution of GSM. On April 2,
2007, Rogers became the first carrier in North America to launch wireless
video calling using this network.
