School’s out for summer! New survey of Canadian parents finds that children spend more time on devices during the summer

7 in 10 want to be able to control, monitor or pause their kids’ time online

Rogers new Ignite WiFi Hub allows parents to manage how much time is spent online with unprecedented visibility and control over the home Wi-Fi network from anywhere, on any device

Toronto, Ontario (July 2, 2019) — With the start of summer, a new survey of Canadian parents found that 55 percent* believe that children spend more time online during the summer and 72* percent would like to be able to control, monitor or pause their children’s online time.

Rogers new Ignite WiFiTM Hub offers a personalized Wi-Fi experience with a simple digital dashboard for customers to manage their home Wi-Fi network, set parental controls and even pause devices during dinner or bedtime. It also gives parents the ability to see who’s connected and set up Active Time Limit that allows them to allocate specific times children can use Wi-Fi and receive notifications once usage reaches its limit. Bedtime Mode helps settle nighttime routines with the option to schedule sleep and wake times for devices on weekday and weekends.

“As more Canadian families increase the number of connected devices in their homes, we want to help them manage and simplify their Wi-Fi experience with features that benefit the whole family,” said Eric Bruno – SVP, 5G, Content and Connected Home Products. “Ignite WiFi Hub gives customers visibility and control over their family’s usage and is another way that we’re making the connected home simple, powerful and personal.”

Among Canadian homes with Internet service, 52 percent± have five or more connected devices with 74 percent± of Canadians spending at least three or four hours online each day. As usage grows, healthy Wi-Fi habits are important not only with children but with adults.

Rogers commissioned a survey of 800 Canadian residents and found that 57 percent* of the Canadian population aged 18-54 think that being online takes away from quality time with their family or significant other and 79 percent* agree seeing who is on their home Wi-Fi network would be helpful.
