Steve Maich takes helm at Canadian Business magazine

TORONTO, July 15 /CNW/ - Ken Whyte, Vice-President and Publisher of
Canadian Business, PROFIT, MoneySense and Maclean's magazines, today announced
the appointment of Steve Maich as Editor and Associate Publisher, Canadian
Business magazine.
Maich served in a variety of increasingly senior editorial roles at
Maclean's over the last six years. He most recently served as Executive
Editor, leading the magazine's coverage of business and economy as well as
writing the widely read weekly Econowatch column. Prior to that, he served as
Senior Editor and Deputy Managing Editor at the current affairs weekly.
"Steve is a remarkably talented journalist with strong instincts for the
kinds of stories Canadians want to read in print and digitally," says Whyte.
"Highly respected by readers and fellow editors, he is an ideal choice for
leading Canadian Business magazine in its 9th decade of publishing."
"The team at Canadian Business has established the magazine as one of the
country's strongest and most-respected voices on business affairs, and I'm
excited to continue building on that strength," says Maich. "Given the state
of the global economy, it's never been more important to provide Canadians
with timely intelligence and insight into the risks and opportunities at home
and abroad."
Maich has won three National Magazine Awards for column and feature
writing, and co-authored the 2009 book The Ego Boom: Why The World Really Does
Revolve Around You. In addition to leading the award-winning editorial team at
Canadian Business magazine, Steve will continue to contribute to business
coverage at Maclean's.
This appointment follows Whyte's own appointment last month as a
Vice-President at Rogers Consumer Publishing, at which time his responsibility
as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at Maclean's was expanded to include
publisher responsibilities for the three category-leading business magazines
produced by Rogers Publishing Limited: Canadian Business, PROFIT, and
MoneySense.
Canadian Business stands alone as the business magazine in Canada with
majority paid circulation and reaches more than a million readers with each
issue. This year, the magazine was nominated for Magazine of the Year, the
most prestigious award bestowed upon a Canadian magazine by the National
Magazine Awards Foundation.
In a related announcement, Whyte also today announced the promotion of
Joe Chidley to the position of Editor and Associate Publisher, Special
Projects Unit at Maclean's and Canadian Business magazines. Please see the
release titled "Joe Chidley to lead the charge at Maclean's universities
franchise" posted to the CNW network earlier today for further information.
