Team Bottcher and Team Tirinzoni Claim Humpty’s Champions Cup Titles as the 2018-19 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Season Draws to a Close
SASKATOON (April 28, 2019) Bringing a close to the 2018-19 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season, Team Bottcher (Edmonton) and Team Tirinzoni (Aarau, Switzerland) have claimed top honours at the Humpty’s Champions Cup in Saskatoon – the seventh and final event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series.
On the men’s side of the draw, Team Bottcher captured its third consecutive Grand Slam crown following a 6-5 victory over Battle of Alberta rival Team Koe (Calgary) in the men’s final on Sunday. With this win, Team Bottcher takes home $40,000 of the $125,000 men’s purse for the victory.
“It’s amazing”, said skip Brendan Bottcher. “We’ve had such a great year, such a great 2019 and I think it’s so fitting we had to battle right down to the end against Koe. It feels great going into the summer now knowing we’re on the top and we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing and we’ll have some success.”
In women’s action, Team Tirinzoni captured its second Grand Slam title following a 6-3 victory over Team Einarson (Gimli, Manitoba). In addition to the Humpty’s Champions Cup title, Team Tirinzoni collects $40,000 of the $125,000 women’s purse and a berth in the Humpty’s Champions Cup next season.
“We didn’t play very well last Slam so this was a great recovery and a great finish to a great season”, said skip Silvana Tirinzoni. “You almost don’t know what to say. It’s been such an amazing first season with that team. I’m really, really happy.”
