NORTH BAY, ON (October 27, 2019) Closing out world-class curling action at the Masters in the Gateway to the North, Team Fleury (East St. Paul, MB) and Team Dunstone (Regina, SK) have captured the first titles of the 2019-20 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season.

On the women’s side, Team Fleury claimed its first career Grand Slam title following a 7-5 victory over Team Yoshimura (Sapporo, JPN) on Sunday afternoon at the North Bay Memorial Gardens. In addition to the Masters crown, Team Fleury collects $35,000 of the $150,000 women’s purse and books a ticket to the final Grand Slam event of the season, the 2020 Humpty’s Champions Cup, in April.

“It feels amazing,” said skip Tracey Fleury. “It was tough being so close to winning a Grand Slam in the past, so to finally pull it off really means a lot.”

“It was one of our goals at the beginning of the season – we wanted to win a Grand Slam title,” added second Liz Fyfe. “Now we know we can, and to win the first title is amazing.”

In the men’s final, Team Dunstone also claimed its first career Grand Slam title after an 8-5 win over 11-time champion Team Gushue (St. John’s, NL). Along with the title, Team Dunstone takes home $35,000 of the $150,000 men’s purse and qualifies for the Humpty’s Champions Cup in Olds, Alberta.

“From head to toe, lead to skip, we were feeling it right from the get go,” said skip Matt Dunstone. “There was just a calming, strangely relaxed feeling right from the beginning of the event and we carried that through. No matter how many highs or lows we went through, we found a way to stick with it.”
