Team Homan and Team Jacobs Clean House at the Humpty’s Champions Cup in Calgary

– The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling returns for the 2017-18 season starting with the Tour Challenge, September 5-10, in Regina –

Calgary (April 30, 2017) Wrapping up six days of intense competition, Team Homan (Ottawa) and Team Jacobs (Sault Ste. Marie) have won the Humpty’s Champions Cup from the WinSport Arena, Canada Olympic Park, in Calgary.

In the women’s final, Team Homan captured its sixth career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title with a 5-4 win over Team Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE). With this win, Team Homan has clinched a spot in next year’s Humpty’s Champions Cup and takes home $40,000 of the $125,000 women’s purse.

“It’s really exciting that we were able to finish the season off with a win,” said skip Rachel Homan. “Team Hasselborg played really well, we had to fight for every shot.”

In the men’s final, Team Jacobs, reigning Olympic gold medallists, captured its third career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title and second of season with a 6-2 win over Team Koe (Calgary). With this victory, Team Jacobs takes home $40,000 of the $125,000 men’s purse and qualifies for next year’s Humpty’s Champions Cup.

“Even though we hadn’t won Slams for a number of years, we knew that it was only a matter of time as long as we stuck together, kept working hard and kept competing in all of these events,” said skip Brad Jacobs. “To now have three wins, it feels great. We’ve been in our fair share of finals and lost a couple of times, so any time you can win one is great.”

The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling returns for the 2017-18 season with the Tour Challenge, featuring the world’s 30 best men’s and women’s teams beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at The Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place in Regina, Saskatchewan.
