CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, NL (December 16, 2018) Bringing six days of world-class curling competition to a close, Team Homan (Ottawa) and Team Paterson (Glasgow, SCO) have claimed the Boost National crowns in Newfoundland and Labrador.

In the women’s final, Team Homan claimed its second consecutive Grand Slam crown of the season – and record-tying ninth career Grand Slam women’s title – following a 4-1 victory over Team Einarson (Gimli, MB). In addition to the Boost National title, Team Homan receives $30,000 of the $125,000 women’s purse.

“It feels really good. We’ve worked really hard this year,” said skip Rachel Homan. “I’m really proud with my team, with how they played all week and through the playoffs. We had a really strong run so we’re excited.”

In the men’s competition, Team Paterson captured its first career Grand Slam title after defeating defending champions Team Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) 4-3 in an extra end on Sunday afternoon. Along with the title, Team Paterson takes home $30,000 of the $125,000 men’s purse and qualifies for the Humpty’s Champions Cup, the final Grand Slam event of the 2018-19 season in Saskatoon.

“It feels unreal. It’s something that we all dream of. You want to be playing in Grand Slams,” said skip Ross Paterson. “We’ve had a breakthrough year and to be on the winner’s board is incredible.”
